Events Winter 2009

See Mike Stengle’s Presentation on “pragmatic high-speed PCB design” by attending the Altium Roadshow events in Karlsruhe Germany (Feb 3rd 2009) or Lucerne Switzerland (Feb 23rd 2009). The presentation will show how to use Altium Designer tools to successfully implement demanding PCB layouts. Topics addressed are Impedance control measures, layer-stack definitions and routing strategies for signals such as PCIe, USB2.0, DVI/HDMI, GbE and many others.

Knowledge Resources completes Xilinx Virtex 5LX330T design

December 2008,  The on-time completion of a complex 12 layer PCB supporting the largest Xilinx FPGA of the Virtex5 family. The rapid implementation of two instances of QDRII Ram and several multi gigabit serial links marks another milestone in our high speed PCB design capabilities.

The  BER-targets of the serial links and data throughput of the QDR interfaces were met with the initial layout, allowing our client to quickly move the design to production.

Knowledge Resources becomes an Altium Service bureau

May 2008, With the ongoing upgrades to the latest Altium Designer software, Knowledge Resources has reinforced its commitment to provide high quality PCB layout services at short turnaround times

March 2008, Knowledge Resources, is invited to provide design services for the new Display installation for the Museum of the Moving Image in New York. Find out more about this exciting makeover and the advanced technology it entails by reading this article.

Dual ISM band modem hardware an immediate success

Jan 2008, the first prototypes of a custom dual ISM- band modem design are in and are performing to specifications. The co-design of a test environment allowed for the fast and efficient execution of the initial testing and protocol development.  Take advantage of our experience & advanced test capabilities, call us today with your RF design needs, you will not be disappointed.  +41 61 545 2080

LED now in color

December 2007, the LED components have reached maturity in their v3.0 issue which supports full color and a new form factor for enhanced robustness and better thermal management.

Knowledge Resources joins Toradex ® Alliance

November 2007, Toradex and its product line of high performance low power computing modules are revolutionizing the price/performance ratio of the embedded computing world. Since Knowledge Resources has already proven its capabilities with a variety of successful Colibri ® carrier board designs, the integration of our engineering resources into the Toradex support network was a natural next step. For design-in support related to the Toradex product palette, please contact basel@toradex.com or call 0041 61 545 8900. To purchase Toradex products please go to the web-shop.

Sneak peak: new FPGA based multi media processor

Summer 2007, Our NDA prohibits further disclosure of features or client, but the design is so big, we just could not resist showing you a little corner of it..

Advanced High-frequency capabilities

May 2007, The growing importance of wireless connectivity and several tuner design projects prompted Knowledge Resources to substantially upgrade its test and measurement capabilities. A new R&S FLS616 provides swept spectrum analysis capabilities with tracking generator to 6GHz, while a Tektronix RTSA provides real-time capture and complex triggering in the time- and frequency domain up to 8GHz. This extension of the test-equipment park now enables Knowledge Resources to offer design services for ISM-Band radio modems with ASSP and FPGA based modulation engines.

Knowledge Resources joins Lattice Leader program

February 2007, In order to expand our portfolio of FPGA design capabilities, we joined the Lattice LEADER program and added

a seat of ISP Lever to our design stations.

LED System v2.0

January 2007, Knowledge Resources completes the prototyping of the second generation of LED components. New features include the ability to stack the modules in two dimensions and form image (video) capable arrays. The processing accuracy per pixel has been enhanced to 48 bit, therefore allowing future upgrades to full color display while remaining backwards compatible to mono-chrome display elements.

CAD System Upgrade

December 2006, in order to take full advantage of our 30” CAD Display, Knowledge Resources upgraded to the latest version of

Altium designer. We can now support PCB and Schematic file-formats as far back as Protel 98, and as current as Altium

Designer V6.7.

LED Scroll Sign completed in record time

August 2006 The first generation of high brightness, smart LED scroll displays has gone from concept to installation in just eight weeks. The display features a scalable distributed processing architecture that allows for virtually limitless cascading of modules in 25cm increments. All the processing is handled by Xilinx Spartan 3E FPGA’s. The protocol engine that communicates with the host application on the news server was implemented on a pico-blaze soft-processor embedded in the FPGA.

Xilinx Alliance Program Membership

May 2006 Knowledge Resources is now officially part of the Xilinx Alliance Program. See Knowledge Resources for details.

Virtex4 Design completed

March 2006, Knowledge Resources completes its first Virtex4 SX35 based design. The Xilinx FPGA performs real time dual HDTV+ (19201200p) processing with advanced image scaling and pip capabilities inside a Samsung N400 Display frame. The high bandwidth requirements of the frame buffers are met by two 48bit DDRII memory banks operating at 180MHz clock and a combined peak data throughput in excess of 4 GB/s. The 8Layer PCB with 100u trace and blind laser-micro-vias performed to specification in its first incarnation.
